3 reasons why Chandler Jones is an ideal fit for the NY Giants
Arizona Cardinals edge rusher Chandler Jones requested a trade Sunday, and given the NY Giants’ needs on defense, Dave Gettleman should be burning down the phone lines
The NY Giantsimproved by leaps and bounds defensively in 2020 in their first year with Patrick Graham as their defensive coordinator, but one player could put this group over the top.
If the Giants want to become a legit contender, they’ll need to bolster their pass-rush.
One player that can immediately solve that problem is Chandler Jones.
After requesting a trade from the Arizona Cardinals with one year left on his contract, the NY Giants should be blowing up Arizona’s phone trying to pull off a trade for two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro-Bowler.
Here are 3 reasons why the NY Giants need to bring Chandler Jones home to New York:
Chandler Jones would immediately become the NY Giants’ best pass rusher
Before missing most of last season with a torn bicep, Jones had double-digit sacks for five straight seasons, including 19 in his last full season in 2019.
Combined, NY Giants edge rushers combined for eight-and-a-half sacks in 2020.
While those numbers would have been better if Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines didn’t get season-ending injuries, the odds that they’d become a player of Jones caliber is slim.
Jones would give offenses another pass rusher to gameplan against alongside Leonard Williams.
