More Experience:
Andrew Thomas, Matt Peart, and Shane Lemieux were each in their rookie year and Nick Gates was in his first year playing center. Nothing can replicate the speed you have to play at in the NFL and that showed with the struggles they had.
Thomas immediately became the teams starting left tackle after Nate Solder opted out. While Thomas did struggle early on, he improved immensely over the course of the season and showed he could potentially become the team’s franchise left tackle.
Peart had one start at left tackle while he split time with Cam Fleming at right tackle. With Fleming now on the Denver Broncos, the starting right tackle position can become Peart’s if he can beat out Solder.
Lemieux, who took over as the starter at left guard against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Will Hernandez contracted COVID-19. After Lemieux joined the teams starting offensive line, the NY Giants running game improved greatly. If Lemieux can improve in pass protection, the NY Giants will have a solid tandem on the left side of the offensive line with Thomas and Lemieux.
Despite playing center for the first time in his career, Gates was undoubtedly the NY Giants most consistent offensive lineman outside of Kevin Zeitler who is now on the Baltimore Ravens.
With a year under their belt and no drastic changes expected to be made, the NY Giants offensive line will be more experienced and have more chemistry which can lead to a big jump in 2021.
