2) Is the organization’s faith in the offensive line justified? … Or misguided?
The NY Giants didn’t choose an offensive lineman in the NFL Draft, and the only offseason additions of substance were reserve linemen Zach Fulton and Jonotthan Harrison signed in the late-waves of free agency.
"“It’s really apparent that we have a little more confidence in our offensive linemen than you guys do,” NY Giants GM Dave Gettleman said during the NFL Draft. “So I’m just going to say we’re happy with the group that we have.”"
The world is about to find out whether Gettleman and the organization’s faith in the offensive line — which Pro Football Focus ranks as the worst entering the 2021 season, is justified, or hubris that could undo the potential of a dynamic collection of offensive skill players.
For the NY Giants’ offensive line to make major strides, which would certainly facilitate quarterback Daniel Jones making a Year-three leap, Andrew Thomas and Matt Peart will need to dramatically improve in their second seasons.
It will likely be weeks before full contact returns to NY Giants training camp, but when the pads start popping, how the offensive line holds up against New York’s front-seven could be a harbinger of what’s to come this season … And a clue as to whether Gettleman will have the last laugh.
