Kelvin Benjamin launches into anti Joe Judge tirade after NY Giants cut him
Kelvin Benjamin rips into NY Giants head coach Joe Judge, after he was released following a heated on-field conversation during Wednesday’s practice
Kelvin Benjamin’s career with the NY Giants didn’t make it out of the first training camp practice of the summer, but the receiver turned tight end didn’t mince words when explaining why he was released, believing he was set up to fail by head coach Joe Judge.
Benjamin, according to NJ Advance Media’s Zack Rosenblatt, says he was told by the Giants to arrive at training camp weighing 251 pounds, but instead showed up at 268 pounds this week. When Judge told Benjamin he would be fined for showing up overweight, things got heated.
Moments into Wednesday’s practice, Benjamin had a conversation with Judge and general manager Dave Gettleman that lasted several minutes before Benjamin stormed off the field.
The NY Giants released Benjamin Wednesday afternoon.
"“I don’t want to bash anyone,” Benjamin told NJ Advance Media. “But I just felt like Joe has had it out to get me since I walked into that team building,” Benjamin said. “It never felt right. The guy never even had a conversation with me until the day they signed me …“To be honest, man, I just felt like it was all a hoax,” Benjamin said of his brief time with the Giants. “I felt like they didn’t give me a chance. I finished the conditioning. I finished all of that. I did what I was supposed to do. Everybody in the building was telling me I looked great. They never wanted the narrative to be good about me.”"
Judge tells FanSided he believes that the Giants are building a winning culture, but from Benjamin’s side, Judge isn’t capable of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
"“I have a perspective on Joe Judge,” Benjamin said. “He’s not a coach that can ever win a Super Bowl because he sits there and cusses all day. You can tell he’s one-sided about everything. He’s a know-it-all. That’s not how it’s supposed to work. We all can learn from each other. We’re all humans at the end of the day. The true colors will come out.”"
While the jury remains out on whether Judge ever wins a Super Bowl, Benjamin’s NFL career is likely over after the events of Wednesday, especially coming off a two-year absence from the league.
