The NY Giants’ recent spate of retirements during training camp continued, as veteran offensive guard Zach Fulton hung up his cleats this week

If this keeps up, the NY Giants might struggle to field a team Week 1.

Thursday, NY Giants offensive guard Zach Fulton retired, becoming the third player this week to hang up his cleats.

So far during training camp Fulton, and tight end Kelvin Benjamin both retired. As did offensive lineman Joe Looney and linebacker Todd Davis, hanging up their cleats just four days after signing with the Giants.

"“These are tough decisions on guys,” NY Giants coach Joe Judge told reporters this week. “As you get vets later in their career, they started training camp, it’s not uncommon for this to happen. Now, you don’t want it to happen, but you have to respect the decision each person makes for their family.”"

Fulton, 29, signed by the NY Giants during free agency this spring, was expected to compete for meaningful snaps along the offensive line, and perhaps push to be the team’s swing-guard on the depth chart.

At the very least, Fulton seemed a lock to make the 53-man roster out of training camp.

However, when guard Shane Lemieux was injured this week, it was Kenny Wiggins who stepped into the starting lineup rather than Fulton.

In what will go down as his final season, Fulton allowed 11 sacks and 39 total pressures in 669 pass blocking snaps.
