NY Giants potential cap casualty #2: Sam Beal, CB

Sam Beal has been a massively disappointing draft pick for the Giants since being selected in the 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft.

It can’t be held against him that he opted out of playing during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the trouble he has gotten into this offseason off the field can and most certainly will be by the front office.

All hope is not lost for Beal this summer, considering the improvement Joe Judge has seen from him:

"“It’s a lot of improvement from Sam on a daily basis,” Judge said. “We’ve got to be in position to stick our foot in the ground and accelerate to either break up a pass, intercept the pass, and put ourselves in position to make a tackle in the open field and not give up a big play. That’s something I see Sam working on.”"

But with a massive salary coming in 2022, it may not make much sense to renew this partnership. Playing just six games since being drafted, expectations have not been met so far, and patience may be wearing thin given his camp struggles.

Time will tell, but Beal is far from the safest bet in the CB room to start the season with Big Blue this September.
