NY Giants training camp: 5 players making strong cases to make the roster
Corey Clement – RB
Corey Clement entered training camp sitting squarely on the roster bubble, but he just might have played his way onto a roster spot.
At leas through the first couple weeks of camp, Clement appears ahead of rookie Gary Brightwell, and has gotten some significant run with the first-team offense.
When given the chance to log carries during full-team 11-on-11 periods, Clement hasn’t hesitated to lower his shoulder and fight for tough yards, while showing some nice burst.
Signed this spring following a tryout, Clement brings Super Bowl experience from his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, and has averaged four yards per carry with seven touchdowns through his first three NFL-plus NFL seasons.
It’s no secret that the NY Giants’ backfield goes through Saquon Barkley, but with Barkley sidelined from full-contact drills and competitive situation, Clement is going to get an extended audition for the role as the Giants’ third running back. He might even wind up beating out Devontae Booker if he continues performing at this level.
