Kadarius Toney buried on NY Giants’ depth chart amid disappointing camp
First-round pick Kadarius Toney has an uphill climb on the NY Giants’ first unofficial depth chart of the season, after rarely being able to practice so far
This certainly wasn’t how the NY Giants drew up first-round pick Kadarius Toney’s rookie training camp.
Toney, who was absent for a significant portion of the Giants‘ offseason program, tested positive for COVID-19 upon checking in for training camp last month, and has been able to do very little during practices this camp, is nowhere near the starting lineup on the team’s initial depth chart.
Wednesday, the NY Giants released the first unofficial depth chart of the summer, ahead of Saturday night’s preseason opener against the Jets, and it lists Toney listed as the 5/6 wide receiver and KR/PR 3.
That’s quite the uphill battle for the player chosen No. 20 overall by the NY Giants, with fellow wide receivers Elijah Moore and Rashod Batemen on the board.
During Wednesday night’s lone open practice to fans of this training camp, Toney did little more than the spectators sitting in MetLIfe Stadium’s lower seating bowl, after going through a couple of individual drills, one day after barely practicing at all.
There’s bringing a rookie along slowly, and then there’s a player not rising to the occasion.
It’s still early, after all Toney and the NY Giants have not played a single game yet, but there’s no getting around the fact that it has been a disappointing start.
