NY Giants sign Super Bowl champion offensive lineman
Friday night the NY Giants finally added veteran depth along the offensive line, signing 34-year-old journeyman Ted Larsen
The NY Giants’ offensive line might have reached its nadir over the past two weeks during training camp, but the organization addressed depth up front on Friday, signing former Tampa Bay Buccaners guard Ted Larsen.
Larsen won a Super Bowl run with the Buccaneers, primarily as a practice squad player last season, but hasn’t appeared in any game action since 2019 when he appeared in 12 games for the Chicago Bears, including two starts.
The Giants have been decimated by injuries, and retirements, along the offensive line. Both veteran interior lineman Joe Looney and Zach Fulton retired two weeks ago, Looney days after signing as a free agent.
Exacerbating issues up front for the NY Giants, veteran guard/center Jonotthan Harrison has missed several practices due to injury over the past two weeks.
At age 34, the NY Giants will be Larsen’s fifth team since being chosen by the New England Patriots in the sixth-round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Larsen has appeared in 137 games, including 88 starts.
How will Ted Larsen fit in with the NY Giants?
The NY Giants are in desperate need of depth across all five positions, but especially along the interior.
Larsen has the chance to contribute at either guard spot, and in his most recent season, Pro Football Focus awarded him a 55.4 overall grade in 2019 as he surrendered one sack and six quarterback pressures in 168 total snaps.
To make room for Larsen, the NY Giants waived running back Mike Weber and defensive back Jordyn Peters.
