As the NY Giants’ preseason opener against the Jets looms large, several players have been off to impressive starts to training camp

Training camp is where jobs are won and lost, bottom of the roster players make their push to make the team, and starters make a statement, and that’s been no different for the NY Giants this summer.

Several key players are already off to fast starts to training camp, making early statements ahead of the Giants‘ exhibition opener Saturday night against the Jets.

Here are the four biggest winners, so far, from NY Giants training camp:

1) Sterling Shepard – NY Giants WR

This has been as impressive a training camp as Shepard has had in his career.

Through Daniel Jones’ first two seasons, it was evident the impact having Shepard in the lineup had on the quarterback’s confidence as well as the offense’s productivity. This summer, Shepard has easily been Jones’ favorite target.

Not only has Shepard made some nice slashing catches over the middle of the field in traffic, from the slot, but he’s also made some nice plays after the catch .

The expectation entering this season was that free agent newcomer Kenny Golladay would vault to the top of Jones’ target hierarchy, and even before the high-priced addition suffered a hamstring injury last week, that just didn’t happen.

Meanwhile, Shepard has consistently been making plays, and consistently been among Jones’ first reads, perhaps a harbinger for the kind of season ahead for the longest-tenured Giant …
