NY Giants rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney was out for the team’s preseason opener against the Jets
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — NY Giants first-round pick Kadarius Toney’s bizarre start to his NFL career continued Saturday, as the rookie wide receiver was inactive for the preseason opener against the Jets.
Toney was not active for the game, and so stayed inside during warm ups, FanSided has learned.
Prior to Saturday night’s contest, Toney wasn’t even out on the field for pre-game warmups. Even injured players such as linebackers Lorenzo Carter and Elerson Smith went through drills prior to the game.
Toney, chosen No. 20 in April’s NFL Draft, has done very little during training camp, after testing positive for COVID-19 upon reporting last month. Once he made it back to the practice field, the former University of Florida standout has been able to do very little during camp.
It was expected that Toney would push for the No. 4 wide receiver job; behind Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, and Darius Slayton, but instead amid his slow start to camp, is buried on the depth chart behind John Ross and David Sills.
