NY Giants running back battle taking shape?

Entering Saturday night’s game, it seemed like Corey Clement might be pushing Devontae Booker for the role as Saquon Barkley’s primary backup.

For all of his progress this camp, Clement probably took a step back with a second half fumble along the goal line.

Under the bright lights of the exhibition opener, Booker and Clement both got a series behind the starting offensive line, but neither really separated themselves.

Booker was less than stellar during his appearance, logging three carry for 12 yards.

Clement, on the other hand, looked explosive and decisive as a runner, taking his first carry in a Giants uniform up the middle for 10 yards. But, the aforementioned fumble won’t play well with the coaching staff.

The NY Giants’ ground attack, and offense, funnel through Barkley, but as the battle wages on to be Barkley’s backup, Clement continues to show the kind of burst and explosiveness that could help him climb the depth chart. That is, if he can hold onto the football.
