Multiple players left the NY Giants’ preseason game hurt last night.

The goal of every NFL preseason game is to stay healthy. The NY Giants weren’t so lucky after their first preseason game. They picked up a few injuries, although none happened to any projected starters.

First off, big names and key players such as Saquon Barkley and Kadarius Toney didn’t play last night. Toney is now battling a new unknown injury that kept him out of pregame warmups or even standing on the sidelines last night. The rookie 1st rounder’s first offseason only has gotten stranger and stranger.

In the game itself, the Giants left with a couple of notable injuries. Kyle Murphy left the game early after playing guard on offense. Murphy left the game on the medical cart after hurting his ankle. The Giants are awaiting news on Murphy’s injury, so his status is currently unknown.

Second-year linebacker T.J. Brunson also got hurt last night. The 2020 7th round pick flashed with a big hit and a forced fumble in the 4th quarter. Brunson then proceeded to get hurt later in the game. His injury news is not good. The team announced Brunson tore his ACL which will effectively end his season before it even started. It’s a devastating blow to the former Gamecock linebacker looking to make the team.

Staying on the defensive side of the ball, defensive back Josh Kalu was also injured. Kalu tore his pectoral, a season-ending injury for him as well. It’s a brutal injury to suffer, Kalu will now need to attack rehab and work his way back onto the football field hopefully next season.

Lastly, Clayton Thorson left the game as well. Thorson did not have a great showing, completing only 5 of 16 pass attempts. Thorson led the one touchdown drive with a pass to Damion Willis for the score. With the chance to win the game late, Thorson got rocked in his own endzone. He never saw the oncoming pass rusher and got blindsided for a Jets safety. This score ended the game and gave the Jets the win. Thorson’s injury is unknown at the moment, there should be more info later

Thankfully, the Giants didn’t lose any prominent players. However, their depth is now being tested all over the roster. The offensive line configuration is currently a mess. Joe Judge already said today the team will look to add more offensive linemen before traveling to Cleveland this week. The line is struggling with injuries all over and they will need reinforcements immediately.

Elsewhere, the team may have to add a new QB3 if Thorson’s injury is serious. Regardless, looking for another developmental quarterback may be a good thing after Thorson’s struggles last night. The Giants will be fine at linebacker without Brunson but his speed and athleticism could’ve popped out the next two preseason games. Josh Kalu’s season-ending injury is unfortunate, but will not make or break the NY Giants’ secondary.
