With the additions of Keion Crossen and Josh Jackson over the past two days, the NY Giants have made significant changes to their cornerback room.
The NY Giants have traded cornerback Isaac Yiadom to the Green Bay Packers, as FanSided NFL insider Matt Lombardo reports.
In exchange for Yiadom, the Giants acquired cornerback Josh Jackson, a former second round pick in 2018.
The deal comes one day after New York made a separate deal to bring in cornerback Keion Crossen from the Houston Texans. Clearly, the team wanted a change at the bottom of it’s cornerback depth chart, and it now has two new faces in the secondary.
How Josh Jackson fits on the NY Giants roster, and much more:
Potential special teamer
Jackson started five games at cornerback for the Packers last season, but his impact goes beyond the defensive side of the ball.
In his career in Green Bay, Jackson has played 556 snaps on special teams, with 142 of them coming in 2020, a season in which he appeared in 12 games.
For comparison, Yiadom played 114 special teams snaps in 2020, but he appeared in all 16 games. In fairness, however, Yiadom was much more of a force on defense with 633 total defensive snaps played, compared to just 331 from Jackson.
With the additions of Adoree’ Jackson, Rodarius Williams and Aaron Robinson in the offseason, it’s likely head coach Joe Judge and his staff were looking for more of a special teams playmaker to put to use in 2021, rather than someone like Yiadom who may be a better pure cornerback.
