Round 6: Gary Brightwell, Running Back

Gary Brightwell was taken to supplement the Giants’ running backs depth chart. However, that situation has since changed greatly.

Brightwell has come in and done his job admirably. However, the NY Giants clearly felt they needed more than just Brightwell. Since drafting him, the Giants added veteran backs in Corey Clement and Alfred Morris. Both players immediately found themselves ahead of Brightwell on the depth chart, reps in practice, and in the first preseason game.

Brightwell was a raw player at Arizona. He was likely drafted due to his potential special teams’ abilities down the line. For now, he is buried on the running back depth chart and might not make the roster this season. If not, expect Gary to be stashed on the practice squad and the team will allow him to develop his game for another year.
