Round 6: Rodarius Williams, Cornerback

The NY Giants made the secondary a top priority the last two years. They have completely revamped and reshaped the outlook for a new-look secondary for 2021.

As part of this exciting group, the team added Rodarius Williams with their last draft choice in 2021. The older brother to the Browns’ Greedy Williams, Rodarius has impressed many all season.

Williams has earned the respect and excitement out of his fellow teammates, coaches, and the media alike. He has been one of the biggest winners in Giants’ training camp, showing a knack for batting down passes and breaking up completions. Williams is an older rookie at 25 years young. He needs to take advantage of every opportunity thrown his way this offseason.

Williams has firmly put himself in the minds of the coaching staff and has shown an ability to hang at the NFL level. The Jets somewhat attacked him Saturday night in the preseason game. Although Williams let up numerous catches, he was often inside in the slot, a position relatively new still to him. Williams didn’t quit on himself, he held his ground, and ended up being a part of the Giants’ biggest play on defense.

Williams recovered a fumble off a massive T.J. Brunson hit that popped the ball loose. Williams scooped it up and nearly scored had the turf monster not brought him down from behind. Williams stayed tough and showed the ability to be a playmaker in this defense.

Williams is right in the mix of competing for a roster spot and will look to make the team as one of the last cornerbacks. Special teams will come into play. If he is on the outside looking in come final cuts time, look for Rodarius Wolliams to be on the practice squad as one of the NY Giants’ top options to bring up on gamedays.
