5 NY Giants whose stocks are plummeting in training camp
NY Giants OL Matt Peart
Matt Peart’s 2020 season started off hot but took a nosedive after he missed three straight weeks in COVID-19 Health and Safety protocols. Missing several games down the stretch, Peart played his way out of the lineup, but was expected to solidify his spot this summer.
For the most part, he has, but Saturday’s game probably has fans sweating a bit more now than they were going into it.
As my fellow GMENHQ contributor Danny Friedman pointed out, Peart’s inability to stay in front of his man must be addressed by the Giants coaching staff:
"On 3rd and 10, Mike Glennon got sacked almost immediately out of his dropback. Matt Peart got beat off the edge pretty quickly and far too easily. The defender beat Peart cleanly right from the get-go. It was a troubling development for all involved with the Giants to see such a massive and simple breakdown occur so fast. It’s never ideal to start a football game with two incompletions and a sack to go three and out. The Giants must avoid these situations more in 2021 and Matt Peart needs to help be a part of the solution, not the problem."
Peart lost some brownie points on Saturday with his porous showing along the offensive line.
NY Giants OL Kenny Wiggins
Kenny Wiggins’ greatest contribution this offseason was protecting Daniel Jones when things got chippy during practice last week.
It surely wasn’t during this past Saturday’s preseason opener in place of Shane Lemieux. With a chance to stand out in an OL room that has fans straight up fearing the pass protection (or lack thereof) in 2021, Wiggins did nothing to quell any anxiety moving forward.
