Daniel Jones and several of the NY Giants’ key players will be spectators in Sunday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns

Don’t expect to see many of the NY Giants’ key players in action during Sunday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

The expectation, sources tell FanSided, is that the Giants will handle Sunday’s game similarly to the preseason opener against the Jets, where very few starters played, and quarterback Daniel Jones sat.

That means Mike Glennon will likely get the start at quarterback, and there’s a chance that he will play behind the NY Giants’ starting offensive line for a series or two, but that will largely be the extent of the starting players in action.

How Daniel Jones sitting impacts the NY Giants roster vs. Cleveland

Head coach Joe Judge’s decision not to play the starters comes after a competitive week of practices with the Browns in Berea, Ohio. It seems that coaches around the NFL find significantly more value in the reps that joint practices provide than the snaps in exhibition games.

In all likelihood, the NY Giants will play Jones and several key players for a stretch during next week’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots, similarly to how teams used to handle the third preseason game, during a four-game exhibition slate. This year, of course, there are only three preseason games.

Sunday’s contest will serve as another audition for bottom of the roster players, looking to make the team.
