Kyle Rudolph caught passes from Daniel Jones prior to NY Giants vs. Browns on Sunday, his first football activity since signing this spring

NY Giants tight end Kyle Rudolph has been on the PUP list and has yet to take a rep during practice since signing as a free agent this spring, but that could be on the verge of changing.

Rudolph, who underwent surgery to repair a foot injury discovered during his physical prior to signing with the Giants, was back on the field during pre-game warmups prior to Sunday’s preseason games against the Cleveland Browns.

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Rudolph ran some routes and caught passes from quarterback Daniel Jones, who also isn’t expected to play Sunday.

What will Kyle Rudolph’s role be for NY Giants in 2021?

Rudolph taking part in any sort of football activity is a big step forward, and could be an indication that he is about to come off the PUP list and at the very least be able to do side-work with trainers during next week’s joint practices with the New England Patriots.

The NY Giants will be counting on Rudolph playing a major role this season, especially in the red zone, which might as well have been the stop-zone for New York last season.

Throughout his career, Rudolph has caught 40 of his 48 touchdowns inside the 20-yard line, which is where the NY Giants need him to contribute.
