NY Giants safety Quincy Wilson intercepted Browns QB Case Keenum, helping his cause in fight for a roster spot

Quincy Wilson helped his cause to make the NY Giants roster at one of the team’s deepest positions Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

By being at the right place at the right time, intercepting Cleveland Browns quarterback Case Keenum in the back of the end zone  with 9:55 remaining in the second quarter on Sunday, Wilson made the kind of play that will stand out on film, and during the coaching staff’s evaluation of the roster.

Somewhat inexplicably, Keenum locked in on tight end Jordan Franks in the back of the end zone, despite Wilson’s ideal positioning between Franks and Keenum, leading to Wilson’s interception and a 22-yard return for the Giants.

Wilson’s interception slammed the door on a promising Browns possession.

According to multiple reporters, Wilson also was a standout during joint practices with the Browns and NY Giants this week, even intercepting Keenum during the practices, as well.

Making two consecutive starts during the preseason, albeit with the coaching staff resting the vast majority of starters, seemingly underscores how the coaching staff feels about Wilson.

Wilson faces a bit of an uphill battle at safety, given that Logan Ryan, Jabrill Peppers, Xavier McKinney, and Julian Love all would appear to be ahead of the 25-year-old, but he is getting quality minutes during the preseason and making the most of them.
