NY Giants kicker Ryan Santoso could be an ideal fit for the Cleveland Browns, after Cody Parkey was placed on injured reserve Monday

If the NY Giants have any chance to trade backup kicker Ryan Santoso, it might be to the Cleveland Browns.

The Giants have little leverage over any trade involving Santoso, because the organization is tied to kicker Graham Gano, so Santoso is likely headed to being among the team’s final cuts following the preseason.

However, the Browns just spent the week watching Santoso kick during going practices, and placed kicker Cody Parkey on injured reserve due to a quad injury on Monday afternoon.

In Sunday’s preseason game between the teams, Santoso made his first extra point try since 2019, and boomed several kickoffs out of the end zone for touchbacks.

Throughout training camp, Santoso has consistently shown a strong and accurate leg, splitting the uprights on several field goal tries from 55 yards and beyond, both during practices at MetLife Stadium and at the team’s facility.

Santoso reportedly has been the subject of trade talks, though prior to Monday a move seemed highly unlikely given the fact that he’s likely to be released later this month. The circumstances changing in Cleveland could give NY Giants general manager Dave Gettleman a team with a glaring need at the position, which could be a match for a deal.
