NY Giants’ 2nd Most Essential Defender: James Bradberry

Position: Primary Corner

Positional Value: Tier 2

What makes him a great defensive player?:

James Bradberry was the best player on the NY Giants in 2020. The veteran corner really should have been an All-Pro in his first year as a Giant. His 18 passes defended ranked 2nd in the NFL. He played 96% of the snaps for New York as well.

Bradberry was named to his first Pro Bowl and made PFF’s 2020 All-Pro team. Patrick Graham routinely matched Bradberry up with the opposing team’s #1 receiver. He completely shut down elite pass catchers like Allen Robinson, DK Metcalf, and Amari Cooper.

How would the NY Giants fare without him?

The greatest strength of the NY Giants is the secondary, and Bradberry is the primary reason for that. Without JB shutting down the opposing #1 receiver, the defense would have an entirely different feel. Adoree’ Jackson would take over as the #1, and the defense would not have a clear-cut #2 CB on the other side.

Jackson would be a downgrade at CB1, and the Big Blue defense would be back in the same position as last season with the CB2 spot. The pass rush is not good enough at this point to compensate for weaknesses in the secondary. The offense is not good enough to compensate for a bad defense.
