Injury to insult, NY Giants’ Evan Engram knocked from preseason finale
NY Giants Pro Bowl tight end Evan Engram was knocked from Sunday night’s preseason game against the New England Patriots with a calf injury
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The NY Giants’ starting offense proverbially limped through a disappointing showing against the New England Patriots Sunday night, before tight end Evan Engram limped off the field with just under 3:00 remaining in the first half.
Engram was quickly ruled “OUT” for the rest of the game by the NY Giants, after limping off the field and getting the attention of three or four members of the Giants‘ training staff and ultimately limping back into the locker room.
Prior to getting injured, Engram caught three passes for 22 yards, and was targeted by NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones on an interception in the end zone.
If Engram is forced to miss any significant time, the NY Giants are in real trouble at tight end.
Kyle Rudolph was just activated from the PUP list this week, and has yet to take part in any full-team drills.
Kaden Smith could be an option, but Nakia Griffin-Stewart is unproven.
The NY Giants have already lost Levine Toilolo for the season, after Toilolo ruptured his Achilles early on in training camp. Engram’s injury could lead to NY Giants general manager Dave Gettleman scouring the waiver wire for tight end help, after teams trim their rosters to 53 players by Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline to do so.
