Daniel Jones report card vs. Patriots: Turnovers continue to dog NY Giants QB
Poor offensive line play, and poor decision making marred NY Giants QB Daniel Jones’ lone appearance of the preseason, in Sunday night’s game against the Patriots
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The NY Giants better hope Sunday night isn’t a harbinger of things to to come from Daniel Jones and the first-team offense.
New York started a new-look offensive line combination; Nate Solder at right tackle and Ted Larsen at left guard, and it went about as well as can be expected with two players projected to be Week 1 starters out of the lineup.
It didn’t take long to get a glimpse of what Jones might be up against when the regular season kicks off against the Broncos in two weeks. On the Giants‘ third play from scrimmage, Andrew Thomas was shoved into Jones’ lap by Patriots defensive end Josh Uche, who sacked Jones.
The NY Giants’ offensive line has been a going concern all summer, and Sunday night at times seemed overmatched by the Patriots’ front-seven, rarely giving Jones a clean pocket to work with.
Jones was sacked twice, and absolutely leveled on a third down by Matthew Judon, who came in untouched.
For Jones, there’s some solace to be taken by the fact that he survived behind the NY Giants’ offensive line and escaped Sunday night injury-free. Especially given that Jones was out there without his most vital weapons; Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, and rookie Kadarius Toney.
But, the goalposts are going to be significantly higher when the Broncos come to town in two weeks.
Here’s a breakdown of NY Giants QB Daniel Jones’ preseason Week 3 performance:
Daniel Jones’ final stats:
Jones finished Sunday night’s game 17-of-22 passing for 135 yards with one touchdown, one interception, and was sacked twice, prior to giving way to Mike Glennon to open the second half.
