The Giants’ Starting Defense Played Well, but There Are Holes.

The NY Giants’ defense looks legit. They have capable players all over the field on defense.

Blake Martinez made a spectacular play in coverage, going up against a slot receiver and taking him stride for stride to come up with an incredible interception. Martinez ripped the ball away from New England and made a big turnover for his team in the Patriots’ territory.

The starting unit didn’t let up any touchdowns, but they did let up some big ‘chunk’ plays and saw quick Patriots’ drives go for big yards in a hurry. The Giants missed some tackles and there were some big holes for New England running backs to take and run through.

The group needs to steady their tackling situation. It’s the bread and butter of any NFL defensive lifeline and has to be consistent. Whether it’s a technique, discipline, or lack of live reps issue, the Giants’ tackling woes need to halt come the regular season.
