Sterling Shepard made a nice move against Broncos rookie Patrick Surtain for an NY Giants touchdown in the second quarter of Sunday’s game
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Sterling Shepard has been Daniel Jones’ favorite target, though the NY Giants’ first two-plus seasons, and Shepard showed why in the second quarter of Sunday’s season opener.
With 8:56 remaining in the second quarter, and the NY Giants trailing 3-0, Jones hit Shepard on a slant pattern along the sideline before Shepard turned upfield, tiptoeing the sideline and beating Broncos rookie cornerback Patrick Surtain for a 37-yard touchdown.
The Broncos chose Surtain No. 9 overall in April’s NFL Draft in an effort to stabilize the secondary, but Shepard beat him for the biggest play of the first half of Sunday’s game.

It is clear that, even after the NY Giants invested $45 million guaranteed in free agent Kenny Golladay and chose Kadarius Toney in the first-round of April’s draft, that Jones has real confidence when targeting Shepard.
Through the first quarter, and the Giants’ first possession of the second quarter, Jones completed 8-of-10 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.
Look for Shepard to continue to be a focal point of the NY Giants’ passing offense, as his timing and chemistry with Jones continues to build.
