NY Giants bold prediction No. 2: Saquon Barkley rushed for 100 yards, 1 touchdown

Saquon Barkley didn’t seem himself in the season opener against the Broncos, but didn’t make any excuses afterwards.

“I don’t want the theme to be, ‘oh, the run game’s not going because Saquon’s knee,” Barkley said Sunday night. “He’s still getting right back from his knee.’ That’s not the mindset I’m not going to have. I’m not going to use it as a crutch. The gig is up, I’m back on the field.”

The NY Giants certainly need more from Barkley, if this team is going to have any designs at all on competing, and in a lot of ways need to come out of Landover with a victory if they don’t want to risk falling too far behind in the NFC East race.

But, fortunately for the NY Giants, Barkley has had some of the strongest performances of his NFL career at FedEx Field.

As a rookie, in 2018, Barkley busted out for 170 yards and a touchdown in Washington. The following year, Barkley added to his FedEx Field mystique with 189 yards with another rushing score.

The Washington Football Team’s defense is significantly better this season. The NY Giants’ offensive line might be worse. Barkley might not be fully confident and comfortable in his knee.

But, with all of that said, expect the NY Giants to add to his workload, which increases the chances he breaks off for at least one big run.

A night somewhere in the area of 19 carries for 100 yards and a touchdown doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility for Barkley …
