NY Giants studs and duds vs. Washington: Dexter Lawrence gaffe costly
NY Giants CB James Bradberry: DUD
James Bradberry made his first Pro Bowl last season, typically draws the opponent’s top wide receiver, and on Thursday night Terry McLaurin took it to the NY Giants’ top defensive back.
In the first half, McLaurin ran a post-pattern into the end zone and hauled in a perfectly placed pass from quarterback Taylor Heinicke for a touchdown. On that possession alone, McLaurin caught four passes for 43 yards. It got to the point that the Giants needed to shade a safety over the top to Bradberry’s side of the field.
Bradberry intercepted Heinicke late, but the NY Giants were unable to cash in, and ultimately Heinicke had plenty of time to lead Washington back down the field for Hopkins’ game-winning field goal tries.
If the NY Giants’ defense is going to be successful, it is going to need Bradberry to find a way to play at the level he did for much of last season, as he hasn’t very much resembled that player through the first two weeks of 2021 … Especially against McLaurin.
