NY Giants’ Blake Martinez knocked from game vs. Falcons
NY Giants inside linebacker, and defensive captain Blake Martinez was knocked out of Sunday’s game with an injury in the first quarter against the Atlanta Falcons
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — NY Giants defensive captain, and inside linebacker, Blake Martinez was knocked from Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons on the first drive of the game.
Within minutes of Martinez coming off the field, the NY Giants officially ruled Martinez OUT due to a knee injury.
Martinez missed a tackle near the sideline of Falcons running back Mike Davis, but seemed to plant awkwardly on his right foot, before going down in a heap. He was ultimately helped off the field by members of the training staff.
Tae Crowder replaced Martinez, and was the first into the backfield to make a tackle for loss on Davis on the Falcons’ next play, a 3rd-and-1 stop for the NY Giants’ defense.
Martinez is one of the Giants‘ most respected leadership voices, and entered Sunday as New York’s leading tackler, with 21 total tackles. He also produced one tackle for loss through the first two weeks.
The NY Giants will turn to Crowder, and Reggie Ragland to make up for Martinez’ production from the inside linebacker spot.
