Joe Judge’s questionable in-game management remains an issue

Time management remains a real concern for this NY Giants coaching staff.

In the first half, Joe Judge challenge a catch by Falcons wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus that might have been a fumble, but the play took place in the second quarter … making it a questionable use of one of Judge’s two challenges.

Later, with the NY Giants backed up into the shadow of their own goalpost, Judge called a timeout rather than accepting a delay of game penalty that would have penalized the Giants about 18 inches.

The pair of decisions left the Giants with no timeouts as their offense returned to the field with 1:38 remaining in the first half.

In the first half, Judge punted from the 39-yard line.

This time, it wound up not mattering, because Evan Engram fumbled on the second play of the possession, but poor clock management is becoming a bit of a trend for Judge and this coaching staff.

During the season-opening loss to the Denver Broncos, Judge challenged an unreviewable play essentially to get an explanation from the officials, which cost the NY Giants a timeout.

In close games, time management matters. Saving timeouts for your offense at the end of a half or a game can make the difference between winning and losing. Judge continues to do his team a disservice in this regard.
