At this late stage, signing players off the street with little familiarity can be a fool’s errand, as it could take several weeks before they get up to speed … Enter, Devante Downs.

Downs was in training camp with the NY Giants all summer, and was on the field for 23 games over the past two seasons, including making eight starts and appearing in every game in 2020.

This summer, Downs seemed to regress, which likely led to him being among the final roster cuts prior to the season.

However, Downs did produce 33 total tackles with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery during his time in East Rutherford.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Downs is on the NY Giants’ emergency list, and among the first players called this week.
