The NY Giants pass rush needs to get going, especially this week against Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott

The NY Giants’ defense hasn’t improved its pass rush issues from last year. In fact, it’s performing worse.

There wasn’t enough talent on the Giants‘ front seven last year. New York had to scheme their way to sacks, QB hits, and pressures to find a way to rattle the opposing QB and disrupt the timing of their rivaling offense.

So far, the NY Giants’ defense hasn’t done nearly enough in the pass rush department. They’ve made life way too easy and far too comfortable for Teddy Bridgewater and Taylor Heinicke, Matt Ryan, and Jameis Winston to start the year.

They need more from Lorenzo Carter and Oshane Ximines, their two returning, veteran edge rushers. They are both coming back from season-ending injuries and have gotten off to slow starts. They haven’t made many plays in either rushing the QB, stopping the run, or playing in coverage.

Azeez Ojulari has led the way so far with the most pressures, three QB hits and three sacks in four games. It’s an encouraging start but look for the defense to rely on him becoming more consistent throughout the entire game. Regardless, it’s never ideal when any rookie has to carry the entire load for a position group, especially one as pertinent as the pass-rushing department.

Expect Pat Graham, Kevin Sherrer, and the players to hopefully get it right this week with a much-needed explosion of big plays in the opposing backfield. Last week, the Giants didn’t hit or get a sack on Winston once all game. This is not a repeatable formula for success or winning.

Dak Prescott will eat the NY Giants alive if given ample time. The Giants need to be able to win more of their matchups alongside the front seven of their defense vs the Cowboys. If they can take advantage of the matchup, they will have a much greater chance of winning a road divisional game and staying hot with a two-game winning streak.
