NY Giants’ Kadarius Toney avoids suspension, but gets hefty fine for throwing punch
The NFL fined NY Giants rookie Kadarius Toney for landing a punch on Dallas Cowboys safety Damontae Kazee last Sunday
Kadarius Toney won’t be suspended for throwing a punch late in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, but the NFL handed down a hefty fine to the NY Giants’ rookie.
Toney, who was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct after landing a punch on Cowboys defensive back Damontae Kazee, was fined $12,875, league sources confirm to FanSided.
Sunday was Toney’s most prolific performance of his young career, catching career-high 10 passes for 189 yards, but he was tossed from the game after landing a punch on Kazee’s helmet. earlier this week, Toney issued a public apology for the punch.
"“It’s more of a moral thing,” Toney said on a conference call with reporters Monday. “At the end of the day. I know right from wrong. At the end of the day, I know that in this sport, it’s not boxing or hockey or anything else where you can just fight and stuff like that.“At the end of the day, I’ve got to take responsibility for what I did and that’s just what it is. If it was a wrong action, that’s just how I look at it.”"
To date, Toney has caught 20 passes for 281 yards, and will likely see an expanded role Sunday, with running back Saquon Barkley out.
Toney will likely be tested Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, and All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, in a 1p.m. kickoff at MetLife Stadium.
