NFC East’s #4 team: Washington Football Team

When it comes to the QB situation, the Washington Football Team is very likely more lost than the Philadelphia Eagles are.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is injured, leaving Taylor Heinicke in charge of the offense just as he was at the end of the 2020 season. While Heinicke did have an inspiring Wild Card weekend game against the eventual Super Bowl Champions, he is for all intents and purposes a transitional QB for a team with a transitional name.

And not for nothing, but even Fitzpatrick’s presence doesn’t guarantee that WFT would be anything resembling an NFC East power.

That’s because the defense is no longer strong enough to carry the team to victory. In 2020, they only carried them to seven wins, but that was enough during a down-year for the division.

With the Cowboys looking like they do at current, Washington wouldn’t be the NFC East favorites even with as much Fitz-magic as possible. But with Heinicke under center, WFT is somewhat under the 8-ball considering his lack of experience.

Remember, Heinicke has appeared in just 15 games in his career, and has started seven of them. Barring Heinicke-jinks that see the Old Dominion alum elevate his game exponentially, the Washington Football Team figures to occupy this spot for much of the remainder of the 2021 season.

Although to be fair it is the NFC East, so someone else may lower the floor of where rock bottom lies.
