NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley tested positive for COVID-19, which could sideline him for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders

NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley tested positive for COVID-19 Wednesday, leaving his availability for Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders in doubt.

Barkley is vaccinated, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, meaning that Barkley will now require two negative tests within 24 hours and be symptom-free to be eligible to suit up Sunday afternoon.

Wednesday, every player on the NY Giants’ roster needed to be tested for COVID-19 after the team says running backs coach Burton Burns tested positive.

Barkley’s positive test would explain why he was not out at practice, during the portion of Wednesday’s workout that is open to reporters.

Testing positive for COVID-19 is the latest setback in Barkley’s season, after the star running back suffered an ankle injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, which has sidelined him since.

Barkley has now missed 20 games through the first three-plus seasons of his NFL career, after being chosen out of Penn State with the No. 2 overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft.

There is now a legitimate possibility that Barkley won’t make his return until after the NY Giants’ bye week.
