This is how the NY Giants should be using Evan Engram

For the better part of the last 25 games, NY Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has struggled to get Evan Engram involved.

Sunday, Engram offered the blueprint.

Engram only caught three passes against the Raiders, but on a 30-yard reception on New York’s opening possession the Pro Bowl tight end made a leaping grab deep downfield over Raiders defensive back Johnathan Abram for a touchdown.

Too frequently, the NY Giants have tried to get Engram the ball on slant patterns, short hitches, and even rocket screens in the flat.

Against the Raiders, Engram offered a reminder that he can stretch the field, has the athleticism to go up and win 50-50 balls, and can be a playmaker in the vertical passing game.

Now that Engram wasn’t traded ahead of last week’s NFL trade deadline, maybe more game plans like Sunday’s will be what’s best for both him and the NY Giants.
