Upon being hired as the head coach, Joe Judge was known for his work as a special teams coordinator, and he instilled a highly disciplinary attitude.
Judge has often preached how important it was to get the little things right, giving off a very blue-collar feeling around the team.
In 2020, the NY Giants were one of the least penalized teams in the NFL with 81 flags called against them, tied for fifth fewest in the NFL. Coming into Sunday’s game, they had already been called for 54 penalties, which put them on pace to blow past last year’s total.
Luckily for Joe Judge, the NY Giants committed only four penalties resulting in just 35 yards, the fewest they’ve committed since the team’s week 4 win over the Saints. This comes after consecutive weeks of the team committing eight and 10 penalties, respectively.
What’s also encouraging is that none of the NY Giants’ penalties were committed in the second half, helping the Giants outscore the Raiders 13-3 in the process.
In a season where the Ny Giants have played in five one-score games, it’s imperative they don’t give away extra yards on defense or push back their already struggling offense as they try to painstakingly move the ball down the field. Nonetheless, it’s a step in the right direction for Judge’s squad.
