NY Giants’ Disappointment #5: EDGE LBs Lorenzo Carter & Oshane Ximines

Two of the biggest disappointments on the team and they come at the defense’s most important position.

The NY Giants have wasted three and four years waiting for something, literally anything, to come of either Lorenzo Carter and/or Oshane Ximines. Instead, it’s currently the rookie tandem of Ojulari and Roche taking advantage of the opportunities their way when their names have been called.

Carter and Ximines’ development has been one of the biggest misses in Dave Gettleman’s tenure as GM.

Instead of using the given top-heavy assets at his disposal on the pass rush department, Gettleman has ignored conventional wisdom.

He has focused on raw, unproven players that are large question marks and expect them to turn into consistent, playmaking exclamation marks for this defense. The plan has failed spectacularly, as Ximines has now gone almost 2 full years with no sacks and Carter has one measly sack to show for his last 12+ games.

Both players are headed seemingly nowhere in their Giants’ careers. Carter may be a useful backup but probably will be nothing more in his career. Ximines is a disappointing player for a small-school player from Old Dominion. Ximines flashed with 4.5 sacks in 2019, he’s just not gotten better or been able to harness all his skillset to turn himself into a reliable, steady player.

Moving on from New York seems to be in the best interest of all parties involved. Giving Carter and Ximines a fresh start could better their chances of sticking around in the NFL and give the NY Giants, newer, better options to work with and develop off the EDGE.
