NY Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas returned to practice this week, which could give the offense a significant boost against the Buccaneers, and moving forward
Help could be on the way for the NY Giants’ offense.
Thursday, as the Giants preparations for Monday night’s clash with the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued, left tackle Andrew Thomas practiced for the second consecutive day.
That’s a huge step for Thomas, who had been the NY Giants’ most consistently dominant offensive lineman, prior to suffering foot and ankle injuries in the early portion of this season.
Prior to his injuries, Thomas hadn’t allowed a sack in 201 pass-protection snaps, en route to a team-high 70.3 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
Thomas has missed the past three weeks after landing on injured reserve, and his absence has certainly been felt along the NY GIants’ offensive line.
If Thomas is able to return Monday night, it would be a significant boost for a line tasked with keeping linebackers Devin White and Lavonte David along with edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul off of Daniel Jones, and keeping Jones upright in and out of the pocket.
Thomas is likely the most important player on the NY Giants’ offense, not named Daniel Jones, and getting him back healthy as the second half of the season begins figures have a trickle-down effect on Jones, Saquon Barkley’s and the rest of the offense’s output. Possibly, beginning as early as Monday night against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
