Daniel Jones report card: NY Giants QB tosses two INTs in loss to Buccaneers
Daniel Jones’ Worst Moment of the Night
Daniel Jones had a lot of ‘worst moment’ worthy plays to choose from in this game.
Jones missed a wide-open Kenny Golladay on the opening drive for a near-certain touchdown or a first & goal situation inside the five if he catches it. Jones missed the look and threw an incomplete to the other side of the field instead.
Their second drive ended on a short 3rd and 2, an all too similar pattern.
The second-half opening drive was a killer for the NY Giants’ offense. They went 50 yards in just six plays before facing a 4th & 1 at the Bucs’ 25-yard line. The Giants ran an ugly play action with dumping Saquon in the flats but it was never there. The Bucs got to Jones right away and he was hit as he threw the ball right in front of him to the ground.
Tampa Bay marched down to score another touchdown to go up 24-10, a potential 14-point swing in the game off the turnover on downs. From there, Jones had maybe the worst play and read of his entire career. He threw a cross-field pass to a Bucs’ defensive tackle with seemingly no Giants’ eligible receiver within 1o or so yards of the attempted pass. It was a boneheaded decision, one we’ve seen far too often from Jones through 36 games.
The Bucs hit a field goal to go up 27-10 and make it a three-score game. In NY Giants’ terms, that means the game is seemingly over as they can’t get over the hump on offense.
Jones threw another pick to cap off a frustrating night. His 2nd half drives finished as followed: Turnover on downs, interception, punt, interception, punt, turnover on downs. Switch the middle punts and interceptions and you’d have symmetry on both sides from start to finish in a 0-point second half. 2 turnovers on downs, 2 punts, 2 interceptions.
Yuck.
