Maybe the NY Giants should play nine position players on offense

The NY Giants’ offensive line has been an abject disaster all season, and there might not have been more of a juxtaposition between how far away this group is from being adequate than when comparing into the Eagles’ line on Sunday.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts frequently had upwards of three-plus seconds in the pocket, with time to survey the field, go through his progressions before making his throw.

Hurts, though, did himself no favors with that added protection, especially on a particularly ugly interception on 3rd down and goal from the one-yard line, when Hurts forced a ball into traffic that was intended for running back Boston Scott, but intercepted by NY Giants linebacker Tae Crowder to end the half.

Conversely, watching the NY Giants’ offense operate, the pocket quickly collapsed around Daniel Jones.

That Jones finished Sunday 19-of-30 passing for 202 yards and a touchdown was a minor miracle, given the onslaught of pressure he was forced to withstand.

It is almost fitting that on a day when reports surfaced Sunday morning that this is “likely” Dave Gettleman’s final season as general manager, that the line he vowed to fix upon his arrival four years go played the kind of game that is a reminder that New York may need to add at least four new starters up front in 2022.

If the NY Giants’ line was even competent, the way Jones is viewed might be dramatically different.
