The NY Giants’ opportunistic defense forced quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense into mistakes, pulling off a 13-7 win Sunday at MetLife Stadium

After a huge win over the Eagles Sunday afternoon, the NY Giants move to 4-7 on the season.

While it was not the prettiest victory, a win is a win, especially in an NFL that is more chaotic from week-to-week than ever.

With this win comes some key stats that show how the NY Giants were able to pull the upset.

Here are 3 stats that defined the NY Giants upset victory over the Eagles:

4 turnovers:

After a disastrous week by the NY Giants’ defense against the Buccaneers, a bounce back game was needed if the Giants wanted a chance to win. As we all saw, they bounced back.

The NY Giants defense looked incredible Sunday afternoon, forcing four turnovers, including three interceptions, and a huge forced fumble towards the end of the game.

The first interception came on 3rd and 5 with 1:16 remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles had the ball on the NY Giants 20, Hurts dropped back and launched a ball to the NY Giants 5 yard line that was intended for Quez Watkins. However, Hurts overthrew the pass and it went right into the hands of Darnay Holmes.

Hurts’ second interception came on 3rd and goal with :08 remaining in the 2nd quarter. The Eagles had the ball on the NY Giants 8 yard line after a beautiful drive down the field. However, it all went downhill once Hurts rolled out right and with seemingly no one open he attempted a difficult pass that was intended for Boston Scott. Things did not go as planned when Scott fell out of bounds and the ball went directly into Tae Crowder’s hands. If Hurts had just thrown it out of bounds it would have likely been a 3-3 ball game. However, he instead tried to do too much on a play and cost the Eagles some points.

The final interception came on 1st and 18 with 6:11 remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Eagles got the ball back after a NY Giants TD and were looking to get back into the game.

However, after an illegal block to the back penalty by JJ Arcega-Whiteside the Eagles were pinned on their own nine-yard line. Hurts took the snap, stepped up, and threw a deep ball that was intended for Jalen Reagor. I’m assuming Hurts did not see Xavier McKinney because he threw it directly into double coverage which made for an easy interception for the 2nd year safety, his 5th on the season.

After a touchdown drive in the third quarter the Eagles desperately needed to score again. After a punt that led to a NY Giants field goal. The Eagles had the ball with 2:46 remaining in the game. The drive was going well until Boston Scott, who is notorious for having big games against the NY Giants, fumbled the ball after Dexter Lawrence knocked it out of his hands on the NY Giants 37. While this did not end the game, as the Eagles not another chance to win. It certainly helped the NY Giants get the win.

All in all this was a huge bounce back game for the NY Giants defense, if they can continue to play like this the NY Giants may have a chance at sneaking into a playoff spot.
