Predicting which NY Giants impending free agents won’t be re-signed in 2022

Few teams have less cap space to work with this offseason than the NY Giants, so some familiar faces are bound to be playing elsewhere, including some players set to be free agents this offseason.

Whoever is the Giants’ general manager this offseason, as of now, will only have approximately $5.214 million in cap space to work with, which is the sixth-lowest total in the league.

The good news for the Giants is that the salary cap is expected to rise in 2023, but this coming offseason might force some difficult decisions, especially if the organization has designs on signing quarterback Daniel Jones to a long-term extension and must decide what to do about running back Saquon Barkley’s future.

Here’s an early read on which of the NY Giants’ impending free agents won’t be back, following this season.

Here are five NY Giants free agents who will be playing elsewhere in 2022:

NY Giants OT Nate Solder

This has been among the more disappointing seasons of Nate Solder’s career, and certainly an indication that he is at the back-end of it.

Solder has simply been overmatched throughout the course of this season, a key reason why quarterback Daniel Jones has been forced to withstand a barrage of pressure throughout the year.

Through the NY Giants’ first 11 games, Solder has already surrendered four sacks, 30 total pressures, and garnered a meager 55.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.

Releasing Solder would create $4 million in additional cap space, for the cap-strapped NY Giants, in 2022, which will likely be one of the offseason’s first moves.
