If Dave Gettleman retires or is fired as NY Giants general manager, there are certain traits John Mara and Co. must identify in his successor

Dave Gettleman’s tenure with the NY Giants may finally come to an end at the season’s finish.

It has been a disastrous tenure at that.

Gettleman has compiled a putrid 18-40 record since the beginning of 2018, with no playoff appearances. Gettleman, 70, had an unwillingness to adapt to the nuances of today’s NFL. His ability to spot NFL talent at the college level has to be questioned, as he has missed on several high draft picks.

Owner John Mara is extremely loyal and will most likely not “fire” Gettleman instead allow him to resign or retire … That begs the question if Gettleman was not the personality to turn the franchise what do the Giants look for in their next GM.

We take a look here.

These are the traits the NY Giants must target in Dave Gettleman’s replacement as GM

Adept with analytics

The jokes, memes, and GIFS were out there after Gettleman’s “job on the line press conference” before the 2020 season.

We all made fun of the fact that he talked about a group of computer specialists employed by the NY Giants to help with analytics.

The fact is Gettleman is an old-school pen, paper, and stopwatch guy, who did not buy into all the technology that goes into a successful franchise.

Take a look at any NFL sideline every coach has a Microsoft Surface. That’s just the tip of the iceberg of the data successful operations use to make their decisions from March to the final whistle of their final game of the season.

It is not the future anymore it is the here and now.

This franchise needs a young analytically focused GM who can use the data to blend with ther football knowledge.

All the technology and analytics will not help if you do not know the difference between Cover 2 and Cover 4.
