The NY Giants have ruled quarterback Daniel Jones out for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, due to a neck injury suffered last week against the Eagles

NY Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is officially ruled out for Sunday’s game, head coach Joe Judge told reporters prior to Friday’s practice.

Jones suffered a sprained neck against the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday’s game.

Leading up to this Sunday’s clash with the Miami Dolphins, Jones had been a limited participant in practice for much of the week. However, Judge told reporters during his media availability prior to practice that doctors had yet to clear Jones for contact, and as a result is out for this week’s game.

In Jones’ place, the Giants will turn to veteran backup quarterback Mike Glennon.

“We expect Mike [Glennon} to go in and run the offense,” Judge told reporters.

Glennon, 31, signed this offseason via free agency to backup Jones, came on in relief of the NY Giants’ starter when Jones suffered a head and neck injury in a Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Against Dallas, Glennon passed for 196 yards with one touchdown to two interceptions.

It would appear that recently-signed quarterback Jake Fromm will serve as Glennon’s backup on Sunday afternoon.

There remains a chance that this could spiral into a multi-week injury for Jones, who thus far has completed 64.3 percent of his passes this season for 2,428 yards with 10 touchdowns to seven interceptions.

Jones’ injury certainly complicates the NY Giants’ evaluation of the third-year quarterback, as the organization will face two critical questions about his future with the franchise; whether to pick up his fifth-year option or sign him to a multi-year extension.

As far as Sunday’s game is concerned, Miami enters with the league’s 28th ranked passing defense, as the Dolphins are allowing an average of 262.5 passing yards per game.
