The Minnesota Vikings claimed former NY Giants RB Wayne Gallman off waivers Monday afternoon

Former NY Giants running back Wayne Gallman has a new home, after he was claimed off waivers Monday by the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings needed to go shopping for a running back, given the uncertainty surrounding Dalvin Cook’s injury, despite Cook running wild for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns last Thursday night in a win over the Steelers while recovering from a torn labrum.

Last season, before hitting free agency, Gallman rushed for 682 yards and six touchdowns, proving a capable replacement for Saquon Barkley, when the former No. 2 overall pick suffered a torn ACL in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears.

Gallman, who signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent this offseason, but didn’t appear in a game, and has also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons so far this season.

Through six games with the Falcons, Gallman has rushed for 104 yards, while averaging 3.7 yards per carry.

There’s a legitimate possibility that Gallman will serve as Cook’s primary backup running back, when Minnesota is back in action next Monday night against the NFC North rival Chicago Bears.
