NY Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, ending his season

The NY Giants couldn’t get anything going offensively Sunday afternoon against the Dallas Cowboys and lost wide receiver Sterling Shepard for the season in the fourth quarter.

Shepard suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, the Giants announced shortly after Sunday’s game, on a non-contact injury on the NY Giants’ final offensive possession of a 21-6 loss.

Late in the game, Shepard tried to run a route and went down just past the line of scrimmage, and the cart quickly came out to cart him off the field.

Prior to getting hurt, Shepard was targeted six times but finished with only two receptions for 15 yards.

"“I think everybody is a little torn up,” NY Giants quarterback Jake Fromm said, following the game. “We really hate it for Shep. From what I’ve seen, and learned from him, he’s one of the hardest workers on the team. i really hate it for him. He has a lot of life and leadership on the offense. Sending a lot of prayers and just wishing him the best.”"

The injury brings to a close a bitterly disappointing and injury-riddled campaign for Shepard, who caught just 34 passes for 351 yards and a touchdown this season.

"“The one thing I know about Shep,” NY Giants RB Saquon Barkley said. “He’s going to tackle this rehab. Shep is a competitor, he’s going to attack this rehab, it’s a little setback, but the comeback’s going to be something special.”"

Prior to Sunday’s game, Shepard missed seven games due to a quad injury that has lingered through much of the season. His season is now over.
