NY Giants MVP: Lorenzo Carter

In a game in which very few NY Giants players performed very well, it was somewhat difficult to decide who deserved MVP.

However, it quickly became clear to me that Lorenzo Carter deserved the cake this week.

Lorenzo Carter had possibly the best game of his career, tallying seven combined tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble.

Carter has struggled mightily all season, only putting up 28 combined tackles and 0 sacks prior to this week. So for him to perform at this high of a level was very surprising.

Even when Carter was not getting sacks or tackles he was putting immense pressure on Dak Prescott throughout the game.

An example of this occurs on this play here, Carter flies off the snap and beats Terence Steele off the edge, forcing Dak to throw the ball away. This forced the Cowboys to punt the ball away and keep the score 0-0.

Obviously, Carter’s best play of the game was the strip-sack fumble he had during the 4th quarter to give the NY Giants the ball back. On this play Carter used his immense effort to chase down Dak Prescott and hit him as he was winding up to force the fumble.

Throughout the season Lorenzo Carter has been outshined by rookies Azeez Ojulari and Quincy Roche. However, that was not the case this week, even with both of them playing quite well. It was nice to see Carter finally breakout somewhat, while I do not see this level of production continuing, it is still nice to see a struggling player out-perform their expectations.

If Carter can somehow manage to keep this level of production up he will be a key piece for the NY Giants going into the future. However, judging by how his career has gone thus far I do not see this happening.
