Few teams will be better positioned, in all likelihood, than the NY Giants when the 2022 NFL Draft begins next spring

The NY Giants have never looked further from being able to compete than in Sunday’s listless 21-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which was never even that competitive.

With three games remaining, the 4-10 Giants face a murky future with uncertainty at quarterback, a woefully overmatched offensive line, drastically underachieving playmakers, and a general lack of direction both in terms of roster construction and coaching philosophy.

Major changes could be coming for the NY Giants this offseason.

However, if there is a silver lining to what has become a disastrous season, it is that after acquiring the Chicago Bears’ first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in a draft-night trade last spring, the NY Giants are as well-positioned as any team in the league from a draft capital standpoint.

What picks would the NY Giants own in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, if the 2021 NFL season ended today?

Here is how the top-10 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft would look if the season ended today:

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-12
  2. Detroit Lions 2-11-1
  3. Houston Texans 3-11
  4. NY Jets 3-11
  5. NY Giants 4-10
  6. NY Giants (via Chicago Bears) 4-9
  7. Carolina Panthers 5-9
  8. NY Jets (via Seattle Seahawks) 5-8
  9. Atlanta Falcons 6-7
  10. Philadelphia Eagles 6-7

This order could see a significant shakeup in coming days, as the Chicago Bears host the division-rival Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, and the Philadelphia Eagles host the Washington Football Team on Tuesday night, with both games potentially impacting the top-10 picks.
