How to invest pair of first-round picks

If the season ended today — and it will in a few days — the NY Giants would own two of the top-10 selections in next spring’s NFL Draft.

Trading out of the No. 11 position last spring with the Chicago Bears to acquire Chicago’s first-round pick in 2022 adds tremendous value. But, the NY Giants passing up on the opportunity to select a difference-maker such as Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons or Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater certainly lowered the ceiling on the NY Giants’ 2021 campaign.

Much of how the NY Giants view Jones dovetails into how they will likely invest their first-round selections.

If a revamped NY Giants front office views Jones as the future of the franchise, having a pair of top-10 picks to fortify the offensive line and add a dominant edge presence has the chance to really lift the franchise’s fortunes.

But, if after everything the organization has seen from Jones since making him the No. 6 overall pick in 2019 leads them to go in a different direction at quarterback, few teams are as well positioned as New York to pry away a veteran such as Russell Wilson, Derek Carr, or Jimmy Garoppolo, who might be available this offseason.

Regardless of what the NY Giants do with these picks, making sure they add bluechip talent is imperative. Especially after passing on franchise cornerstone caliber players last spring to acquire the Bears’ selection.
